Welcome to the first issue of Clinical Insights in Eyecare for 2026.
This edition features a timely Point-Counterpoint debate, 3 insightful case reports, and our ever-valuable journal scans that summarize key updates from recent literature.
Our lead case report for this issue is “Visual Decline from Anterior Clinoidal Meningioma Due to Medroxyprogesterone Acetate – A Case Report,” by Ryan Feng, BA, Dhruvi Patel, OD, and Erin M. Draper, OD, FAAO. This report presents a thought-provoking case linking exogenous progestin use to meningioma growth and resultant visual decline, underscoring the importance of thorough medication history and close neuro-ophthalmic monitoring in patients on hormonal therapies.
In “Demodex-Associated Blepharitis Treated with Nonprescription Topical Ivermectin: A Case Series,” Benjamin I. Graham, OD, FAAO, presents a compelling series demonstrating the potential utility of over-the-counter topical ivermectin in managing Demodex-associated blepharitis. This accessible treatment option may offer clinicians a practical alternative in the management of this common and often undertreated anterior segment condition.
Our final case report, “Ocular Adverse Effects Occurring with Mirvetuximab Soravtansine-gynx: A Case Report,” by Kristen P. Lamoreau, OD, and Jae Young You, MD, details the ocular toxicity profile of this antibody-drug conjugate used in the treatment of platinum-resistant ovarian cancer. The report highlights key clinical findings and reinforces the critical role of eye care providers in monitoring and managing patients undergoing this emerging oncologic therapy.
Our Point-Counterpoint this quarter features an engaging overview of artificial intelligence in eye care, authored by Leslie Wilderson, OD, FAAO, Dipl AAO; Danielle Weiler, OD, FAAO, Dipl AAO; and Michael Radoiu, OD, MPH, FAAO, Dipl AAO, on behalf of the American Academy of Optometry Comprehensive Eye Care Section. The piece thoughtfully examines both the promising applications and the important limitations of AI in optometry, covering topics such as diagnostic accuracy, clinical workflow, the patient–doctor relationship, and ethical considerations surrounding accountability and equity.
As always, Drew Rixon, OD, FAAO, and Eddie Chu, OD, FAAO contribute insightful journal scans with practical takeaways from recent studies.
We hope you find this issue thoughtful, clinically meaningful, and engaging.
